The event will provide candidates with an opportunity to visit with multiple school districts located throughout the region and the United States. Candidates will include current student teachers, experienced educators and administrators, principals, nurses, school psychologists, school counselors and social workers.

Students in non-education majors who may be considering a career in teaching also are welcome to attend. District recruiters will be on hand to discuss alternative teaching license programs and career opportunities with their school districts.

Roseanne Bensley, with NMSU Career Services, said the job fair has been one of the most effective recruiting forums in the Southwest. This year’s event format will allow for candidates to meet with district representatives at their respective tables. Interviews will be conducted at the discretion of the district representatives.

More than 50 school districts from more than 12 states are currently registered with the potential for additional districts to attend the fair. Some of the participating schools include Denver, Colorado Public Schools, Glendale, Arizona Elementary School District, San Marcos, Texas Consolidated Independent School District, KIPP Houston, Texas Public Schools, Hatch Valley Public Schools and Las Cruces Public Schools.

“During last year’s event, about 118 participants registered and participated in the job fair,” Bensley said. “Given the current job market for educators, interested candidates are invited to take advantage of the face-to-face contact with school district personnel.”

Participants are requested to pre-register online prior to the event at http://careerservices.nmsu.edu.

Information and assistance regarding online candidate or school district registration is available by calling 575-646-1631 or via email at hireNMSU@nmsu.edu.

Bensley suggests that attendees research and prepare as much as possible prior to the job fair. “Any candidate seeking employment should learn as much as they can about potential districts they are interested in,” she said.
