NMSU administrative assistant to receive first ‘A’ Mountain Service Award

The New Mexico State University Employee Council’s first “A” Mountain Award, intended to honor exemplary, full-time, regular staff employees, will be presented to Christine Quay, an administrative assistant with the Department of Communication Studies, at the annual Administrative Staff Service Awards Ceremony at 3 p.m. Friday, April 8 in the Corbett Center ballrooms.
“A” Mountain Award recipients are chosen based on five criteria: innovation, responsiveness, service, spirit and teamwork. The award is for staff in the NMSU system, including off-campus facilities and community colleges. Quay was chosen from among 26 nominated candidates.
“This is very cool and I am very honored to receive this award,” Quay said. “I was so taken that those who nominated me took the time to send emails and write in; it’s an awesome feeling.”
Quay, who has been with the Department of Communication Studies since July 2004, handles everything from hiring to keeping time sheets and financial records, to scheduling classes.
“The award is meant to honor those who represent qualities of integrity, dedication, skill, endurance, resilience, determination, passion and performance of their duties,” said Employee Council Chair Steve Loring. “Based on these criteria, Christine was the total package and heavily supported by those who nominated her.”
The Employee Council “A” Mountain Staff Award provides the university family with a forum for spotlighting good works by NMSU staff members who serve as an inspiration to others and by their positive contributions make the university a better place.
