Dawson Hired as New Extension Plant Doctor

Las Cruces -- Carol Dawson began work Aug. 17 as a horticulturist for New Mexico State University's Cooperative Extension Service in Bernalillo County.

A New Mexico native, Dawson returns to the state after earning a doctorate in horticulture from Texas A&M. As a teaching assistant there, Dawson taught floral design and landscaping.

Dawson earned a bachelor's degree in horticulture in 1991 and a master's degree in agricultural and extension education in 1994, both from NMSU.

She also has served internships at Santa Fe High School as a student teacher and in the Bernalillo County Extension office with the master gardeners' program.

Dawson said she looks forward to working with master gardeners to meet the needs of citizens in the Albuquerque metropolitan area. "I'm glad to be back in New Mexico with an opportunity to give something back," Dawson said.
