HRTM student explores wine, food industry in Italy


This summer, New Mexico State University student Cordell Pacheco traveled more than 6,000 miles and crossed an ocean to learn about the wine and food industry in a way few students have experienced.

Pacheco, a senior in NMSUís School of Hotel, Restaurant and Tourism Management, based in the College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences, received a scholarship from the family-owned wine company Banfi Vinters to participate in a seven-day educational tour of Italy. He was the only student from New Mexico to participate in the trip from May 26 to June 2.

NMSU to screen 'Rocky Horror Picture Show' tonight at ASNMSU Center for the Arts

Come enjoy a viewing of the film "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" at the ASNMSU Center for the Arts tonight. The box office opens at 5:30 p.m., doors at 6:30 p.m. with a preview show and costume contest at 7 p.m., and the film will begin at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 for orchestra and include a prop bag, and balcony seats are $5 without a prop bag. Student Success Center to host 'College Survival' workshop

New to the NMSU? Or maybe you are just unsure about what it takes to be a successful student. Engage in meaningful conversation that will jump start your semester and help you develop a plan for academic success. Survivors of Seton Hall fire to speak at NMSU Tuesday

Shawn Simons and Alvaro Llano will share their story of survival at NMSU nearly 20 years after escaping a residence hall that was set on fire at Seton Hall University in New Jersey Jan. 9, 2000. The blaze killed three students and injured 58. Their presentation at NMSU will include a viewing of their documentary, "After the Fire," a reading from their bestselling booking and a question and answer session. It will begin 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 27 in the Corbett Center Student Union outdoor stage. The event is sponsored by the NMSU Fire Department, Housing and Residential Life, Dean of Students, NMSU Police Department and NMSU Dining. For more information, call 575-646-1888.

Pistol Pete's Academic Success Fair set for Sept. 25

You are invited to participate in the Pistol Pete's Academic Success Fair. The Pistol Peteís Academic Success Fair will provide first-year Aggies an opportunity to learn how to access their six-week grades while offering returning Aggies an opportunity to reacquaint themselves with the academic and co-curricular support services that are available at NMSU.

Campus units and student campus organizations will have the opportunity to showcase their services and programs by tabling at Pistol Peteís Academic Success Fair. Tables will be provided. Partnering units and student campus organizations need only to bring their table banners, SWAG, interactive activities and enthusiasm. The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 25, at Corbett Center Student Union, first floor.

Retirement celebration for Paul Bosland set for Sept. 27

Paul Bosland, distinguished professor, Regents professor and co-founder and director of NMSUís Chile Pepper Institute, retired Aug. 1 after 33 and a third years at NMSU. A celebration of his career at NMSU will be held from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 27, at the Blue Door Venue, 1750 Calle de Mercado, in Las Cruces. Limited parking space in Lot 9 due to construction

Parking Lot 9 will have a portion of it fenced off for contractor storage during construction of a chemistry classroom. The outage is expected to last until Nov. 29.
