Valencia County Extension to host holiday craft showcase

LOS LUNAS, N.M. - "A Completely Crafty Christmas" is the theme for the holiday craft showcase hosted by New Mexico State University's Valencia County Extension Service on Monday, Dec. 2, at the Peralta Methodist Church, 25 Wesley Road, Peralta.

"Come and get a head start on your Christmas gift giving by creating some fabulous take-home holiday crafts," said Laura Bittner, NMSU home economist. The event is being offered for the first time in Valencia County. "Nothing says love and thoughtfulness like a handmade gift. Participants will leave with a minimum of three ready-to-give gifts."

Craft projects will include upcycled wine cork ornaments, decorating with miniature Christmas trees, quilled Christmas cards, Mod Podge light switch cover, beaded wire art ornaments, decorated chargers and serving trays and magnet gift set.

Home economists from Bernalillo, Cibola, Sandoval, Torrance and McKinley counties will join Bittner in presenting the craft activities.

Two sessions are planned: a day session from 1 to 3 p.m. and an evening session from 6 to 8 p.m. A participant fee of $10 will cover the costs of all materials, hot cocoa bar and refreshment and a booklet of all crafts and recipes to take home.

Registrations must be made by Monday, Nov. 25, by calling the Valencia County Extension office at 505-565-3002.
