Short course on smart device app development offered by NMSU

The New Mexico State University Engineering New Mexico Resource Network is offering a short course entitled Smart Device Application Development. Class sessions will be held on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, May 13-24 from 5:30 to 9 p.m. on the New Mexico State University campus in Las Cruces.

The course instructor will be Rolfe Sassenfeld, College of Engineering assistant professor of engineering technology. The fast-paced course will introduce the entry level Java programmer to the evolving world of smart device application design. Using the Android mobile device operating system, participants will create their own custom smart app. Each session will include in-depth presentation on important app development topics followed immediately by hands-on programming assignments that will apply and reinforce the knowledge and skills offered during the presentation. Attendees will design, create, modify, improve and publish their own smart device application to the Google Play online app store.

Participants should be knowledgeable in the Java programming language and should be familiar users of the Android mobile device platform.
