NMSU to honor 1,397 graduates Dec. 10 at fall commencement ceremony

At universities across the country, students are finishing up the semester and looking forward to winter break. For many, it is also the end of their degree program and their upcoming graduation ceremonies will add an additional festive note to the season.

New Mexico State University's fall 2011 commencement ceremony will take place at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 10, at the Pan American Center in Las Cruces.

Of 1,397 students who filed bachelors and graduate degree applications this semester, approximately 1,000 are expected to participate in the ceremony. They will join more than 110,000 alumni, living and dead, who have earned bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees since 1893.

Provost Wendy K. Wilkins will present the degree candidates to President Barbara Couture, who will confer the degrees. Instrumental music will be provided by the New Mexico State University Symphonic Band under the direction of Montgomery Kemp Hill; Ryan M. Allais, an undergraduate student, will perform two vocal numbers.

The single fall ceremony, which serves graduates from all of the colleges at the Las Cruces campus, will last approximately two hours. In order to avoid traffic congestion, graduates are advised to arrive by 9 a.m. at the east side of the Pan American Center to pick up their name cards. Arrowhead Drive will be closed to traffic between Triviz Drive and Stewart Street.

No tickets are required for guests attending the ceremony; seating is available on a first come, first serve basis. Guests requiring special assistance in the Pan American Center should call 575-646-4413.
