The latest installment in "Senator Pete Domenici's Legacy" book series took first place in the political/current events category at the 2011 New Mexico Book Awards. The awards were handed out Nov. 18.
The book, edited by Vicki Taggart, chronicles the proceedings of the 2010 Pete V. Domenici Public Policy Conference, which took place at New Mexico State University.
"Senator Pete Domenici's Legacy" offers transcripts of presentations made by every speaker at the 2010 conference, including the lively debate between Karl Rove, former deputy chief of staff and senior adviser to former President George W. Bush, and Joe Lockhart, a former presidential press secretary in the Clinton Administration. Veteran ABC News contributor Sam Donaldson moderated the debate.
The first "Senator Pete Domenici's Legacy" book, released in 2009, won the New Mexico Book Awards' best anthology prize. The second "Legacy" book, published last year, was a finalist in the best political book category. The awards, presented by the New Mexico Book Co-op, recognize the best books by New Mexico authors and publishers.
As with previous installments in the series, this latest volume is published by Rio Grande Books in collaboration with New Mexico State University. The book is available online through Rio Grande Books at http://www.riograndebooks.com, and at Barnes & Noble stores and website, http://www.bn.com.
The 2011 Pete V. Domenici Public Policy Conference took place Aug. 31-Sept. 1 at the Las Cruces Convention Center. The conference addressed the nation's debt crisis, national security and health care. The "Senator Pete Domenici's Legacy" book for the 2011 conference is set to be released this summer.
