NMSU faculty and staff receive awards

Nine New Mexico State University faculty and staff members received achievement and service awards totaling $12,000 at a ceremony to open the 2000-2001 academic year.


New Mexico State University Faculty Achievement Awards of $3,000 each went to Richard V. Adkisson, associate professor in the Department of Economics and International Business; James O'Donnell, associate professor in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction; and Robert M. Torres, associate professor in the Department of Agricultural and Extension Education. The awards, funded by the NMSU Foundation, recognize faculty members who have gone to extraordinary efforts to assure that their students get a high-quality education.

Fort Bliss Federal Credit Union Achievement Awards, $500 each, were presented to Gerald L. Chacon, northern district department head for the Cooperative Extension Service; Roberta L. Himebrook, head of the Mathematics, Sciences and Technologies Division at NMSU-Alamogordo; Tammy Anthony, director of Current Funds Accounting; and Romelia Eres, department secretary for the Department of Accounting and Business Computer Systems. The Fort Bliss Federal Credit Union Awards honor faculty and staff for outstanding service.

Patricia Christmore Faculty Teaching Awards, which recognize junior faculty members for excellence in teaching, were presented to Abe Armendariz, associate professor in the Department of Educational Management and Development; and James Maupin, assistant professor in the Department of Criminal Justice. The Christmore awards are $500 each.

The awards were presented at an opening convocation Aug. 22.
