NMSU hosts fruit tree pruning workshop at Alcalde Sustainable Agriculture Science Center

ALCALDE, N.M. - A fruit tree pruning workshop will be held at the New Mexico State University Sustainable Agriculture Science Center in Alcalde from1:30 to 4 p.m. Thursday, March 3.


Pruning techniques for pome fruit, such as apples; stone fruit, such as peaches, cherries, plums and apricots; grapes; and brambles, such as raspberries and blackberries, will be covered.

The workshop will include pruning background knowledge, common training systems and new developments for each fruit species plus hand-on experience in the field.

"If you are home gardeners and would like to learn some pruning basics, or you are small scale farmers or commercial farmers who would like to learn some new techniques, you are welcome to join us for this pruning workshop," said Shengrui Yao, NMSU Extension fruit specialist. "Please bring your pruning gear with you and dress appropriately for cold weather."
