"Not Just New Mexico's Senator," written by Martin J. Janowski, won best political book at the 2010 New Mexico Book Awards. "Senator Pete Domenici's Legacy; The Proceedings from the 2009 Pete V. Domenici Public Policy Conference," edited by Vicki Taggart, was a finalist in the same category. Both books were published in collaboration with Rio Grande Books and New Mexico State University's Domenici Institute.
Janowski is a journalist, a public relations consultant and served as press secretary for Domenici during the 1980s. His book highlights Domenici's contributions to reducing the threat of nuclear proliferation, the Congressional budget process, energy policy and mental health care parity. Domenici represented New Mexico for 36 years in the U.S. Senate before retiring in 2008. The book also includes a foreword by Garrey Carruthers, NMSU's vice president for economic development and director of the Domenici Institute.
"Senator Pete Domenici's Legacy" features presentations from the 2009 Domenici Public Policy Conference at NMSU, including speeches by U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano, U.S. Sen. Mary Landrieu and former U.S. Sen. Hank Brown. The book also covers the conference topics of nuclear energy, homeland security, health care, the future of the military and the national debt.
"Senator Pete Domenici's Legacy; The Proceedings from the 2008 Pete V. Domenici Public Policy Conference," edited by NMSU Professor Jon Hunner, also won an award for best anthology at the 2009 New Mexico Book Awards.
All three books are available at www.amazon.com. Another book, which will chronicle the 2010 Domenici Public Policy Conference, will be published later this year.
