SOCORRO, N.M. - New Mexico State University's Cooperative Extension Service offices in Valencia and Socorro counties will host pesticide training and testing for private applicators from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 17, at the Socorro County Extension office, 198 Neel Ave. in Socorro.
"Anyone who has agricultural land and is going to spray their own property with restricted-use pesticides is required by law to have this training," said Tom Dean, Socorro County Extension agent. "Individuals must have a license from the New Mexico Department of Agriculture to purchase such chemicals. They obtain the license by taking this class and passing the test."
The course is also open to people with public or commercial applicator licenses to earn five continuing education units.
For more information or to register for the workshop, call Tom Dean in Socorro County at 505-835-0610 or Kyle Tator in Valencia County at 505-565-3002.
There is no fee for the training, but a fee of $15 is required for the private applicator licensing test. Payment of the fee should be by check made payable to the New Mexico Department of Agriculture.
