FFA members receive scholarships

LAS CRUCES - Winners were awarded more than $47,000 worth of scholarships June 7 as part of the State FFA Convention held June 5-8 at New Mexico State University.


Students from various chapters across the state received scholarships based on FFA projects and record books completed during the year. The state scholarships ranged in value from $500 to $1,100. The national scholarships were worth $1,000 to $5,000. Scholarships were sponsored by various businesses and foundations.

A few students received both state and national scholarships. These students were Chanz Robbins of the Animas chapter, Denny Burnett and Leticia Varelas of Artesia, K.C. Hendricks of Carrizozo, Drew Perez of Logan, Paul Moya of Los Lunas, and Brittany Anderson, Stephanie Bailey, Skyla Cockerham and Lori Richardson of Texico.

The students who received the highest total value of awards were Paul Moya with scholarships totaling $6,000 and Leticia Varelas with awards totaling $5,500.

New Mexico has more than 4,000 agricultural education students who make up the 75 FFA chapters in the state. Members prepare for agriculture related careers through community service, competitions and leadership events.

ANIMAS
Chanz Robbins won a $500 Levi Downey Memorial scholarship.

ARTESIA
Denny Burnett won $1,100 sponsored by the Ag New Mexico FCS/PCA. Leticia Varelas won $500 sponsored by the New Mexico FFA.

CARRIZOZO
K.C. Hendricks won $500 sponsored by Pioneer Hi-Bred International, Inc.

CLOVIS
Cole Andes won a $1,000 Fresh Country scholarship.

HAGERMAN
Andrew Rodriguez won $500 sponsored by the Ag New Mexico FCS / PCA.

LOGAN
Drew Perez won a $500 Hap Dalton scholarship.

LOS LUNAS
Paul Moya won $1,000 sponsored by DJ's Fundraising.

QUEMADO
Shayla Gibson won a $1,000 Fresh Country scholarship.

TATUM
Melissa Augustine won a $500 Gene Atchley scholarship.

TEXICO
Brittany Anderson won $1,000 sponsored by DJ's Fundraising. Stephanie Bailey won a $500 Governor Richardson scholarship. Skyla Cockerham won a $500 FFA Alumni scholarship. Lori Richardson won a $500 Riverstar scholarship.

Chanz Robbins won a $1,500 Commitment to Agriculture scholarship sponsored by the Monsanto Company/National Association of Farm Broadcasters.

ARTESIA
Denny Burnett won a $1,500 Commitment to Agriculture scholarship sponsored by the Monsanto Company/National Association of Farm Broadcasters. Leticia Varelas won a $5,000 Booker T. Washington Scholarship.

BELEN
Savannah Saavedra won a $1,000 Ford Trucks/Built Ford Tough scholarship.

CARRIZOZO
K.C. Hendricks won a $1,000 Ford Trucks/Built Ford Tough scholarship.

CORONA
Juanita Romero won the $1,000 Olds Garden Seed scholarship.

CORONADO
Amy Schmitz won a $1,000 Ford Trucks/Built Ford Tough scholarship.

DES MOINES
Kelli Goodan won a $1,000 Dodge Trucks scholarship.

DEXTER
Dustin Devenport won a $2,500 collegiate scholarship sponsored by the Archer Daniels Midland Company.

ESTANCIA
Gretchen Adams won a $1,000 Ford Trucks/Built Ford Tough scholarship. Judd Gardener won $1,300 sponsored by United Agricultural Products.

LOGAN
Denton Dowell won $1,000 from the Cargill Community Scholarship Program. Drew Perez won $1,000 from the Cargill Community Scholarship Program.

LOS LUNAS
Paul Moya won a $5,000 Booker T. Washington scholarship. Shayanne Easley won a $1,000 Ford Trucks/Built Ford Tough scholarship.

MELROSE
Casey Estes won $1,000 sponsored by BASF Agricultural Products. Brock Graham won a $1,500 Commitment to Agriculture scholarship sponsored by the Monsanto Company/National Association of Farm Broadcasters.

MESA VISTA
Sammy Gurule won a $1,000 Ford Trucks/Built Ford Tough scholarship.

MORIARTY
Lindsay Jaramillo won a $1,000 Ford Trucks/Built Ford Tough scholarship.

PORTALES
Justin Rolan won $1,000 sponsored by Tulsa Welding School.

TEXICO
Brittany Anderson won a $2,500 Chevrolet scholarship. Stephanie Bailey won $1,000 sponsored by Garst Seed Company. Skyla Cockerham won a $2,500 Chevrolet scholarship. Lori Richardson won $1,000 sponsored by the Cargill Community Scholarship Program.
