FFA Members Win Scholarships

LAS CRUCES- New Mexico FFA members will collect more than $18,850 in state and national scholarships at the awards ceremony June 2 during the annual State FFA Convention at New Mexico State University.


New Mexico has 6,000 agricultural education students, more than 4,000 of whom belong to FFA. Members participate in community service projects, competitions and leadership events that prepare them for more than 300 careers related to agriculture.

State Scholarships

The New Mexico FFA Association awards more than $5,000 dollars in scholarships each year. Recipients of New Mexico FFA scholarships are listed below by high school chapter.

ARTESIA: Mandy Prude received a $750 Ag New Mexico Scholarship sponsored by Ag New Mexico Production Credit Association and Farm Credit.

CLAYTON: Ross Perschbacher received a $500 NMSU scholarship sponsored by Pittsburg/Midway coal mining.

CORONA: William Keith Shafer received a $500 NMSU scholarship sponsored
by Pittsburg/Midway coal mining.

DEMING: Ivy Wilkin received a $500 NMSU scholarship sponsored by Pittsburg/Midway coal mining.

DEXTER: Haley Chesser received a $475 scholarship to the Washington Leadership Conference in July, a weeklong trip for 2,300 FFA members to learn about agricultural careers, tour the nation's capital and visit congressional representatives.

ELIDA: Shay Daugherty received a $1,000 Fresh Country Scholarship.

FLOYD: Chance Chenault received a $500 Hap Dalton Scholarship sponsored by New Mexico FFA Alumni Association.

TATUM: Lacey Klein received a $500 Pat Long Memorial Scholarship sponsored by River Star Farms. Melissa Augustine received a $125 scholarship to the Washington Leadership Conference in July, a weeklong trip for 2,300 FFA members to learn about agricultural careers, tour the nation's capital and visit congressional representatives.

National FFA scholarships

New Mexico FFA members who collected more than $13,500 in national FFA scholarships are listed below by high school chapter.

BELEN: Joseph Garcia and Florian Sanchez each received a $1,000 Ford Trucks Scholarship.

CARRIZOZO: Brent Dixon received a $1,000 Ford Trucks Scholarship.

CLIFF: Davena Norris received a $1,500 Monsanto Company and National
Association of Farm Broadcasters Commitment to Agriculture Scholarship.

CORONA: Rachel Lueras received a $1,500 Monsanto Company and National Association of Farm Broadcasters Commitment to Agriculture Scholarship.

GRADY: Lauren Armstrong received a $ 1,000 Dodge Division/Daimler Chrysler Corporation Fund Scholarship.

LOS LUNAS: Tessie Emond received a $1,000 Ford Trucks Scholarship.

MESA VISTA: Megan Kuykendall received a $1,000 Ford Trucks Scholarship.

MORIARTY: Katie Barras received a $1,000 Ford Trucks Scholarship.

RESERVE: Kassi Laney received a $1,000 Wilbur-Ellis Company Scholarship.

TEXICO: Cherry Mayfield received a $1,000 Rhea and Kaiser Marketing Communications Scholarship. Kevin Burns received a $1,500 Monsanto Company and National Association of Farm Broadcasters Commitment to Agriculture Scholarship.
