LAS CRUCES - A competition and wine tasting Nov. 21-23 featuring more than 200 wines from across the Southwest will benefit a scholarship fund for New Mexico State University's hotel, restaurant and tourism management program.
More than 100 wineries from New Mexico, Texas, Arizona, Colorado, Oklahoma, Utah, Wyoming and Nevada have submitted entries for judging during the Southwest Wine Competition at the New Mexico Farm and Ranch Heritage Museum here.
Judging will take place Nov. 21 and 22 with gold, silver and bronze medals awarded. Participating wines will be available for tasting Saturday, Nov. 23 during "An Evening of Enchantment Celebrating the Vineyards of the Southwest," beginning at 6:30 p.m.
Admission to the tasting event includes a wine glass, food by Purple Sage Restaurant, an art show, a silent auction and entertainment by the Krucez band. Several wineries will have wines for sale by the glass, bottle or case. A collection of vintage wine equipment will be on display.
Advance tickets for the tasting event are $25 and are available at TicketMaster and at the Pan American Center ticket office. Admission at the door will be $30. For information about hotel/tasting event packages at $105 to $117, call Bill Gomez at (505) 646-4543.
