LAS CRUCES -- Norman Martin began work Aug. 13 as an assistant editor with New Mexico State University's agricultural communications department. He will focus on science writing and contribute to news, publications and Internet content development.
"After working for really large competitive companies such as ABC, Disney and Reed Elsiver, it's great to be back at a research university where people do positive things that help improve other people's lives," Martin said.
Before joining NMSU, Martin oversaw editorial content for AutoCentral.com, an automotive industry website operated by VerticalNet. For almost 10 years, he worked as managing editor of Automotive Industries magazine, based in Detroit, Mich.
Martin's science writing experience includes seven years at Texas A&M University, first as an information specialist covering business and science, then as editor, photographer and designer for Texas Shores magazine, which won 16 awards in five years. He also worked for three newspapers in Kentucky and Tennessee.
A native of the Texas Panhandle, Martin earned a bachelor's degree in journalism and a master's degree in mass communications, both from Texas Tech University.
