LAS CRUCES - Livestock producers from Colorado and New Mexico will sell 31 performance-tested bulls and 19 heifers March 25 at El Sueño del Corazon Ranch near Abiquiu.
The bulls and heifers are evaluated as part of the Northern New Mexico Bull Test and Heifer Development program, sponsored by New Mexico State University's Cooperative Extension Service. Since late November, the bulls are being monitored for weight gain and breeding potential. The heifers were monitored for growth development and reproductive traits.
"The Northern New Mexico Bull Testing Program really opens up new opportunities for area livestock producers to improve their herds," said Tony Valdez, Extension agent in Rio Arriba County. "We've added the heifers as a new feature in this year's sale."
Bull breeds for sale will include BlackAngus, Gelbvieh, RedAngus, Polled Hereford, Horned Hereford, Blonde d'Aquitaine and Santa Gertrudis. Heifers are Black Angus, Gelbvieh, Blonde d'Aquitaine and Red Angus.
The sale will begin at 1 p.m. on March 25. In addition to the sale, there will be field day events including a trade show, an educational seminar and an evening awards banquet.
For more information about the sale, contact Valdez at (505) 753- 3405. If you are an individual with a disability who is in need of an auxiliary aid or service to participate in this event, please contact Valdez in advance.
