LAS CRUCES - Spice up your wardrobe with ideas from the second annual summer fashion show at the Mesilla Valley Mall on April 29 at 2 p.m.
Produced by students in New Mexico State University's clothing, textiles and fashion merchandising program, "Spice Up Your Summer" will feature some of the hottest trends in apparel and accessories. Performing some Latin dance moves, the NMSU Dance Sport Club also will heat up the stage, located at the south end of the mall in front of J.C. Penney Co.
"Playing on the popular Latin theme, we'll feature clothes with bright, bold colors," said Jane Hegland, an NMSU assistant professor.
There will be something for everyone's summer wardrobe, as 30 men and women model clothes for all ages and sizes.
The fashion show is the final project of Hegland's semester long fashion promotion class. Students in the class have been involved in every aspect of the show, including creating the theme, selecting the styles, finding the models and promoting the event.
"The students are gaining experience with all the activities necessary to put on a successful fashion show," Hegland said. "At the same time, the community gets a peek at the latest fashions that mall merchants have to offer."
To date, those merchants that have agreed to participate include Afterthoughts; Beall's; Claire's Boutiques; Corral West; Deb Shop; Dillard's; Eyemasters; Famous Footwear; Foot Action; Journey's Shoe Store; Lady Foot Locker; Lerner Shops; Gadzooks; Gordon's Jewelers; Maurices; Melrose; Payless Shoesource; Prime Time Sports; Sears, Roebuck and Co.; and Vanity.
At the event, drawings will be held for free prizes and gift certificates from mall merchants, including Candy Craze, Chick Fil-A, Chinese Gourmet Express, E&J Distributor's Furniture Outlet, Eyemasters, Luby's, Mastercuts, Oshman's Sporting Goods, Pop's Pretzels, Reditax, Regis Salon, Rio de Oro, Voicestream Wireless and Zales Jewelers.
