NMSU Rodeo team competes in final rodeo of the semester

The New Mexico State University Rodeo men's team won first overall and the women's team placed second in the final rodeo of the semester, the NMSU National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association rodeo in Las Cruces, N.M., Oct. 29-30.


"We had some stellar performances by our student athletes this weekend. We now have a four-month break, so we will be practicing, letting injuries heal and gearing up for our spring season," said Jim Dewey Brown, NMSU Rodeo coach.

Tony Buckman, of Bend, Ore., won first in bareback riding.

Michael Bates, of Mexican Springs, N.M., placed second in steer wrestling.

The team of Rodee Walraven, header, of Datil, N.M., and Johnny Salvo, heeler, of Horse Springs, N.M., received second in the team roping event. Kelsey Early, header, of Maricopa, Ariz., and Shane Baum, of Central Arizona College, placed third.

Jessica Silva, of Tularosa, N.M., won second in breakaway roping.
