Solar Hot Water Seminar Jan. 30 in Carlsbad

LAS CRUCES -- Homeowners can learn to reduce their energy costs during a solar hot water seminar Jan. 30 in Carlsbad.

The two-hour seminar, sponsored by New Mexico State University's Cooperative Extension Service and the New Mexico Energy, Minerals and Natural Resources Department, will educate participants on the different types of hot water heaters and give tips on selecting the best type of solar hot water system. Cost, installation and maintenance also will be discussed.

A solar water heater collects sunshine and uses it to heat water for baths, showers, laundry, dishes and swimming pools. The amount of hot water supplied by solar energy depends on the type and size of the system, the climate and the quality of the site in terms of solar access.

The session runs from 6-8 p.m. at the Eddy County Cooperative Extension Service office, 1304 W. Stevens, in Carlsbad.

The seminar is free and open to the public; however, space is limited. To register, contact Melissa Gehner at 887-6595.
