Artesia Girl Wing 4-H Essay Contest

Brandy Cotham, 13, of Artesia, won a weekend trip for herself and a friend to 4-H Teen Get Away for her first place entry in the junior division of the state 4-H essay contest.

4-H members from across the state submitted essays on the topic 4-H is..., to win trips to state leadership conferences.

Cotham wrote about how 4-H has taught her responsibility, respect and teamwork. "4-H has helped me get to the point that I try to do my best in everything," Cotham said. According to Cotham, the best aspects of 4-H are fun, friendship and travel.

Cotham said 4-H projects give members an opportunity to show off their work at local fairs. "The projects let any kind of person chose anything they would like to do," Cotham said.

This is Cotham's first year in the 4-H rodeo. She enjoys competing with her horse Whisky Shadow and participating in activities with the Pecos Diamonds 4-H club. She has many goals set for her 4-H career, including becoming a 4-H rodeo queen.

Cotham is the daughter of Phil and Tonya Cotham of Artesia.
