LAS CRUCES - Billy Dictson has been appointed associate dean and director of New Mexico State University's Cooperative Extension Service. He had served in an interim capacity since 1997.
Dictson oversees more than 350 Extension faculty and staff in state offices and in all 33 New Mexico counties.
Dictson served as Extension's eastern district department head for nine years, administering Extension programs in 11 eastern New Mexico counties from 1988 to1997.
He joined Extension as an agent in Quay County in 1965, moving to Curry County three years later. He was appointed Curry County program director in 1976, serving in that capacity for 12 years.
Dictson is a past president of the National County Agricultural Agents Association. Born on a farm near Portales, he earned bachelor's and master's degrees in agricultural and extension education from NMSU.
