LAS CRUCES--Discover the latest trends at the "Swing into Summer" fashion show at the Mesilla Valley Mall at 2 p.m. May 8. The show is being produced by students in New Mexico State University's clothing, textiles and fashion merchandising program.
The fashion show will feature the hottest trends in summer apparel and accessories for young men and women. The swing dance craze will be highlighted as NMSU students perform during the production.
The announcer for the event, which will be held at the south end of the mall in front of J.C. Penney, will be disc jockey "Big Ed" from radio station "101 Gold" KVLC-FM.
"The purpose of this production is to allow students in the program to gain experience with the various activities involved in organizing a fashion show," said Jane Hegland, an NMSU assistant professor. "It is designed to be fun and entertaining to the public, while providing an excellent opportunity to promote merchants in the Mesilla Valley Mall."
The fashion show is the culmination of a semester-long project for Hegland's fashion promotion class. Students have been involved in planning every aspect, including recruiting the models, selecting the music and clothing, staging the production and promoting the event.
All of the clothes and accessories featured in the show will be provided by mall merchants. To date, those that have agreed to participate include Afterthoughts, Beall's, Claire's Boutique, Crescent Jewelers, Deb, Dillard's, Foot Action, Gadzooks, J.C. Penney, Journey's Shoe Store, Lady Foot Locker, Melrose, Miller's Outpost, Payless, Prime Time Sports, Sears and Vanity. E & J Distributors Furniture Outlet will provide props for the stage.
At the event, drawings will be held for free prizes and gift certificates from mall merchants, including Afterthoughts, Chick-Fil-A, Cinema 8, Claire's Boutique, Corndog Plus, Day's Hallmark, Gordon's Jewelers, Mastercuts, Pearl Vision, Orange Julius, O'Ryan's Tavern, Pop's Pretzel, Prints & Collectibles, Sam Goody, Sbarro&The Italian Eatery, Regis Hairstylists and Zales Jewelers.
