LAS CRUCES - Festival-goers can take part in the bi-state Border Town Days July 31 in Texico, N.M., and Farwell, Texas.
The event will begin at 10 a.m. in Texico with a parade that will proceed across the border into Farwell.
"The theme of this year's event is 'The 1900's,' which means parade entries can include everything from horses and buggies to space crafts," said Mike Cook, coordinator of New Mexico State University's Rural Economic Development Through Tourism (REDTT) project.
REDTT, a program of NMSU's Cooperative Extension Service, promotes agriculture through tourism.
The parade will feature an ugly pickup contest and an antique tractor contest. About $200 in cash prizes will be awarded to the top four finishers in the parade. The deadline for entries is July 23.
Cook said the celebration also will include food, fun and games at Farwell City Park.
