LAS CRUCES - Lea County's Mexican Heritage Fiesta will honor Hispanics from across the county July 31 at the Lea County Fairgrounds in Lovington.
"The Mexican Heritage Fiesta is a great opportunity to learn about and enjoy the Hispanic heritage that is such a vital part of the past, present and future of New Mexico," said Mike Cook coordinator of the Rural Economic Development Through Tourism (REDTT) project.
REDTT, a program of the New Mexico State University's Cooperative Extension Service that promotes agriculture through tourism is co-sponsoring the fiesta.
Activities will begin with a queen contest at 2 p.m. A reception honoring the Hispanic of the Year will follow at 3 p.m. The queen will be crowned during a dance held from 8 p.m. until 1 a.m.
