LAS CRUCES--Fall foliage and some of the state's best arts and crafts will be on display Oct. 2-3 during Oktoberfest, in Cloudcroft.
Visitors can do early holiday shopping at the juried arts and crafts show or take the kids to magic shows and activities.
"You get a real sense of autumn at Cloudcroft's high altitude," said Mike Cook, director of the Rural Economic Development Through Tourism(REDTT) project. "The changing leaves are incredibly beautiful. The arts and crafts show is terrific" REDDT, a program of New Mexico State University's Cooperative Extension Service, promotes agriculture through tourism.
Other activities include live entertainment and horseshoe pitching contests.
"There will also be Aspencade foliage tours for visitors to see the vibrant reds, golds and yellows that make fall in CLoudcroft so beautiful," Cook said.
Each night of the festival, the Cloudcroft Light Opera Company will present the melodrama "Alias Smedley Pewtree, or the Villain of Glitter Gulch," at the Open Air Pavilion. Performances begin at 7 p.m.
There is no charge for any of the festival events. Donations will be accepted at the melodrama performances.
