LAS CRUCES--The 1999 New Mexico Governor's Conference on Tourism, the largest tourism gathering of the year, will be held Oct. 13-15 in Silver City.
"The tourism industry is growing and changing very rapidly in New Mexico," said Mike Cook, director of the Rural Economic Development Through Tourism(REDTT) project. "This conference is an important opportunity for everyone involved in tourism to learn about new trends and new opportunities."
REDTT, a program of New Mexico State University's Cooperative Extension Service, promotes agriculture through tourism.
The theme of the conference is "Future Quest-Tourism Beyond 2000."
The conference will feature a tourism trade show. There also will be workshops on tourism leadership, marketing and finances and research.
Presentations during the conference will be made by New Mexico Governor Gary Johnson and Janet Green, New Mexico Department of Tourism secretary.
