LAS CRUCES--Ann Vail recently assumed the position of department head of New Mexico State University's Family and Consumer Sciences and Extension Home Economics department.
Vail will work with the department's state specialists located in Las Cruces and more than 30 home economists stationed in Cooperative Extension Service offices throughout the state. She also will oversee the faculty, staff and over 300 students in the academic department of Family and Consumer Sciences.
"My goals for the two departments are multifaceted," Vail said. "Extension, teaching and research ought to work together to serve and benefit the citizens and families of New Mexico."
Before coming to NMSU, Vail worked in the College of Family and Consumer Science at Iowa State University and the School of Family and Consumer Sciences at the University of Idaho.
Vail has a master's degree and a doctorate in home economics education from The Ohio State University. She completed her undergraduate work in home economics education at Colorado State University.
(Vail is the author of many peer-reviewed journal articles and two books - Taking Sides: Clashing Views on Controversial Issues in Family and Personal Relationships and an accompanying instructors manual. A third book is in progress.
