LAS CRUCES -- New Mexico State University's Equestrian Team will host three horse shows Nov. 5, 6 and 7 at NMSU's Equestrian Center.
NMSU, the 1998 national Western champion, will compete against eight invited teams: Colby Community College, Colorado State University, Denver University, Laramie County Community College, United States Air Force Academy, University of Colorado and University of Wyoming.
Points earned by the team at the NMSU show will count towards eligibility for regional intercollegiate competition.
"It's very difficult to put on a show and also compete," said Debbie Jones, team coach. " A lot of energy and time goes into setting up a show like this."
NMSU's Equestrian Team recently competed in the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association Stock and Seat Show in Colby, Kan. on Oct. 9, the team won reserve high-point team, and team member Jessica Ackerman won high-point rider. On Oct. 10, the team took high-point honors, and team member Jeb Stuart won reserve high-point rider. The following riders received one or more first places: Jessica Ackerman, Melanie Curry, Lindsey Hansen, Wendy Keiss, Sam Marusich and Jeb Stuart.
The NMSU Equestrian Center is located on the corner of Stuart Street and Union Avenue. The shows will begin Friday and 10 p.m., Saturday at noon and Sunday at 8 a.m.
