New Mexico State University and the New Mexico Vine and Wine Society will host the 29th Annual New Mexico Vine and Wine Educational Conference March 5 and 6 at the Sandia Courtyard Hotel and Convention Center in Albuquerque.
The conference will begin at 7:30 a.m. each morning with registration and continental breakfast, and end each day at 8 p.m. with wine sampling. A preconference marketing seminar will be Thursday, March 4, focusing on how to use social networking as an effective marketing tool. Michael Wangbickler is the seminar speaker.
"This educational conference is a great opportunity for vintners to invest in their wineries' future as well as meet fellow wine makers and enthusiasts from all over New Mexico and the Southwest," said Bernd Maier, NMSU's extension viticulture specialist.
The conference will focus on marketing techniques, wine evaluation and wine judge training, current vineyard issues for Northern and Southern New Mexico, pesticides registered for grapes in the Southwest, soil analysis, irrigation water analysis, Pierce's disease and nematode research.
This year's guests speakers include Natalie Goldberg, Robert Flynn, Kevin Lombard and Steve Thomas from NMSU, Michael Wangbickler from the Academy of Wine Communication, Billy Dictson and Jeff Witte from the Southwest Border Food Safety and Defense Center, Joanie Quinn from New Mexico Organic Commodity Commission, Ian Norrish from NMV&WS, viticulture researcher Jeremiah Baumgartel, Cary Hamilton from NMDA, international wine master Jay Bileti and Evaristo Maestas with TTB.
Conference sponsors will display products available to vintners and winemakers.
