ALBUQUERQUE - PVC pipe, greenhouse plastic and some time and energy can extend a gardener's growing season.
Del Jimenez, agricultural specialist with New Mexico State University's Sustainable Agriculture Science Center at Alcalde, will demonstrate how to build a hoop greenhouse during a day-long workshop on Thursday, Oct. 26.
"This is an inexpensive structure for gardeners to extend their growing season," said Joran Viers, horticulturalist at NMSU's Bernalillo County Extension office. "While it is not designed as a hot house, the hoop greenhouse will allow a gardener to start plants earlier in the spring and will extend the growing season in the fall."
Viers will assist in building a 15-foot by 30-foot hoop greenhouse from PVC pipe and greenhouse plastic at a South Valley residence.
The workshop fee is $20. To register and to receive directions to the workshop site, contact Viers at (505) 243-1386 or by e-mail at email@example.com.
