Sports marketing professional to speak about social entrepreneurship

Sergio del Prado, vice president for sales and marketing for the Los Angeles Dodgers, plans to visit New Mexico State University.


Del Prado will be the latest guest in the Garrey E. and Katherine T. Carruthers seminar series in economic development. Del Prado will speak from 2:45 to 3:45 p.m. Nov. 1 in the Corbett Center Senate Gallery. His talk will focus on the importance of social entrepreneurship.

Del Prado is credited with a number of successful sales strategies initiated by the Dodgers, including the creation of an in-house Spanish-language radio sales team, which has regularly been atop all sales in Major League Baseball. He also was responsible for developing the Dodgers' first Spanish language television and outdoor advertising campaigns. Additionally, he developed the partnership that led to the introduction of the popular Dodger Dog store at Universal CityWalk Hollywood.

The Carruthers speaker series is hosted by the Carruthers Chair in Economic Development. Business Dean Garrey Carruthers and his wife Katherine created the chair with a $500,000 gift. The state of New Mexico gave the chair $1 million in matching funds.
