Students interested in summer jobs, internships, co-ops or a career after graduation are invited to New Mexico State University's College of Business Career Academy.
The academy is a series of four Friday afternoon seminars, from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m., beginning Aug. 31, in Guthrie Hall Room 303. The seminars will cover important topics for job seekers, including how to search for the right job, how to write the perfect résumé and how to handle an interview.
"These kinds of internships are very important for students," said Garrey Carruthers, business dean and vice president for economic development. "Experience means so much to employers today. If it comes down to hiring an 'A' student with no work experience or an 'A/B' student with experience, many employers would take the 'A/B' student."
The Career Academy is conducted by NMSU's Career Services and the College of Business. This is the first partnership of its kind between the two.
The academy also includes Resumania, an opportunity for students to have their résumés reviewed by professionals and receive tips for improving them. Resumania runs Sept. 10 to 14, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., in front of the Engineering Complex on Frenger Mall.
Academy events lead up to the NMSU Career Expo, to be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday, Sept. 18 and 19, in the Corbett Center Ballrooms. Students will have a chance to network and interview with employers in different fields.
Students who attend Resumania, the Career Expo and all four Career Academy seminars will have a chance to will a Dell laptop computer. The winner will be announced during the last seminar, Sept. 21, in Guthrie Hall Room 303.
