New Mexico State University President William Conroy today announced the selection of John C. Owens as executive vice president, the university's No. 2 administrative position.
As executive vice president, Owens is also NMSU's chief academic officer. The appointment is effective immediately.
The selection was made following a national search and interviews with four finalists for the position. "I believe that John will continue to provide strong leadership in this most important and demanding NMSU administrative assignment," Conroy said.
Owens has been serving as interim executive vice president since 1997. He previously was dean of the NMSU College of Agriculture and Home Economics. He first joined NMSU as a faculty member in 1977.
Owens earned his Ph.D. in entomology at Iowa State University, his master's in entomology at Texas Tech University, and his bachelor's in biology at West Texas State University.
