The New Mexico State University Foundation awarded seven $1,000 scholarships to Aggie students during selected home basketball games during the 2019-2020 basketball season. Shianne Trevio (second from right) from the College of Arts and Sciences won the Nov. 21 drawing.

“The Grand in the Stands Giveaway is by far one of the most exciting experiences,” said Leslie Cervantes, interim president of the NMSU Foundation. “Calling the student and watching them run down from the stands, brings so much joy. Thanks to our donors we are helping our students with tuition costs and making a positive impact on their time at NMSU.”

The giveaway asked students to enter the drawing using their Aggie ID at selected, home basketball games. During halftime, a giant, spinning wheel containing every registered student’s name was pulled out onto the court. The winner was presented with a check and congratulated in front of all Aggie fans. Each winner received the scholarship the following week to apply directly to their spring tuition.

According to ticket numbers provided by NM State Athletics, Nov. 21 was a record-breaking game with 600 student entries. Throughout the selected seven basketball games a total of 3,028 students entered for a chance to win “A Grand in the Stands!”
