NMSU’s ‘Broadway On Stage’ musical fundraiser set for Feb. 22

“Broadway On Stage 2020,” the New Mexico State University theatre department’s popular one-night-only fundraiser is back for 2020. NMSU students, faculty, staff and community members come together at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 22 in the ASNMSU Center for the Arts for an evening of Broadway favorites and never-before-seen songs currently playing in New York.

Twenty-five songs from 16 different musicals will be presented, including “Holding Out For a Hero,” “Summer Nights,” “You Will Be Found,” “Loverly,” and “I Won’t Grow Up.” Musicals represented include “Annie Get Your Gun,” “Footloose,” “Grease,” “You’re A Good Man, Charlie Brown,” Peter Pan,” “Dear Evan Hansen” and “Into the Woods,” among others.

In addition to NMSU theatre students, faculty and staff, the department welcomes visiting professor Lisa Hermanson ,who co-directs “Broadway On Stage” with Christa Fredrickson. Hermanson currently teaches the musical theatre classes, directs the spring performance of “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee” and is the writer/composer of her original musical, “The Golden Door,” which will be featured during the program.

The evening is a fundraiser for NMSU students and the theatre program, bringing in funds to support guest artists, student education and travel scholarships for student auditions and workshops.

Theatre Department Head Wil Kilroy hosts the event with special guests making appearances. A silent auction benefitting the department’s fundraising branch, the American Southwest Theatre Company, will be running throughout the evening.

A reception will take place immediately after the show and guests will have a chance to meet the performers in the theatre’s rehearsal hall. The ASNMSU Center for the Arts is located at 1000 E. University Ave. Tickets for the event are available from the Pan American Center at 575-646-1420.
