NM businesses invited to apply for $2,000, four-week program with NMSU’s Arrowhead Center

Business startups located in New Mexico with plans to sell outside the state are invited to join BizSprint, a program to accelerate success with $2,000 and resources from New Mexico State University’s Arrowhead Center.

Application deadline is June 27 for a spot in NMSU’s entrepreneurship and innovation hub with program funding generously given by New Mexico Gas Company, an Emera Company. The five-week BizSprint accelerator program is designed to launch businesses in New Mexico and support dynamic results.

Applicants do not need any prior NMSU affiliation to be considered, nor be in the Las Cruces, New Mexico, area as selected businesses can participate in the program’s curriculum and weekly workshops in-person or virtually.

The cohort of participants will meet Friday mornings July 12-Aug. 9. During the program, participants learn methods for customer discovery – speaking to potential customers about their service or product. Each week after speaking with customers, the businesses will have a chance to craft and refine their value proposition based on customer feedback, and assess the market for their product or business.

The businesses will have a required structure for participation as a team, with an entrepreneurial lead based in New Mexico, a technical lead, and a business mentor. If the applicant business does not have one or more of these roles, Arrowhead Center is able to make connections to potential members for the duration of the BizSprint program.

“Our network of mentors can be a crucial outside influence for a growing business, seeing weaknesses earlier and capitalizing on strengths that owners might not see from the inside,” said Zetdi Sloan, director of Arrowhead’s Sprint Accelerator programs. “These team members during the BizSprint help refine strategic goals and aims to set up businesses for progressive results.”

As an additional benefit, BizSprint teams with businesses in a science, technology, engineering or technology field may also be granted eligibility to apply for the National Science Foundation’s National I-Corps program, which includes a $50,000 award.
