LGBT+ Programs will partner up with Alianza of New Mexico to provide free HIV testing and informative sessions on safe sex to the campus community. The event will begin at 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 18, in Aggie Underground located in Corbett Center. The testing will be anonymous and done directly with Alianza with no information being given to anyone at the university.

“We value the health, safety and comfortability of everyone in the campus community. This is about public health and is a safe space,” said Zooey Pook, director of NMSU’s LGBT+ Programs. “By providing a safe and inclusive space, students of all backgrounds have come out to utilize these services. This is impressive because there are a number of other testing events on campus. It shows that the students appreciate the environment we’ve created.”

Pride Season Lunch will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, April 19, at the Corbett Center outdoor patio. Free lunch will be provided by Sodexo and contemporary artist Mike Maven of the Young Pandas will perform. The campus community is invited to come and celebrate in a welcoming and diverse atmosphere.

The last event of the season will be Rainbow Graduation, which will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, May 4, at NMSU’s golf club house. The event will celebrate LGBT+ and LGBT+ allied students along with faculty and staff. Three awards will be given out and graduates will receive a rainbow stole to wear at commencement.

“Rainbow graduation highlights the successes and the hard work that our students, faculty and staff have put in at NMSU to better the campus community and to creating a better more inclusive and diverse world,” Pook said. “I will personally be attending because I just completed a Ph.D. and it is personally important to me to have a place where my contribution to the university can be recognized.”

Tickets for rainbow graduation will be sold from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. April 16-26 in Garcia Annex Room 146. Donations will also be accepted in hopes of offering complimentary tickets to graduates. For more information contact LGBT+ Programs at 575-646-7031 or visit http://lgbt.nmsu.edu.
