NMSU dance program to host Desert Spring dance concert

Dance students at New Mexico State University, along with NMSU dance alumni, will be performing pieces choreographed by NMSU dance faculty during the Desert Spring dance concert next week.

Desert Spring performances will be at 7:30 p.m. March 2 and at 2:30 and 7:30 p.m. March 3 at the ASNMSU Center for the Arts, 1000 E. University Ave. A dessert reception will follow the March 2 show.

Pre-sale tickets through Thursday, March 1, are $15 for adults, $10 for students and seniors, and $5 for children 12 and younger. Tickets at the door are $20 for adults, $15 for students and seniors, $5 for children 12 and younger. Pre-sale tickets can be purchased by calling 575-646-4067.

The dance concert is the NMSU dance program’s biggest event of the spring semester. Pieces will be choreographed by dance program director Ann Gavit and faculty members Ray Backlund, Debra Knapp, Lucilene de Geus, Paco Antonio, and teaching assistant Jermey Edmonson.

“Desert Spring highlights the strengths of our three dance concentrations,” Gavit said. “The audience will experience the elegance of ballroom, intricate footwork of flamenco and thought-provoking choreography of contemporary.”
