“We look forward to this event every holiday season in El Paso Brass,” said Jim Shearer, who plays tuba in the group and is a Regents Professor of music at New Mexico State University. “It’s become the concert that kicks off the entire season for us, and we love it.”

In addition to Shearer, members of the El Paso Brass are: Sam Trimble, founder of the group, retired professor of trumpet and director of jazz ensembles at the University of Texas at El Paso and principal trumpet of the El Paso Symphony Orchestra; Kenneth Capshaw, trumpet player, UTEP faculty member and 30-year veteran of the El Paso Symphony Orchestra; Richard Lambrecht, French horn professor at UTEP and principal horn in the El Paso Symphony for 40 seasons; and Frank Otero, a music educator in the El Paso area for more than 20 years.

The El Paso Brass concert will benefit KRWG, a public broadcasting service of NMSU, serving southern New Mexico and far west Texas. KRWG can be heard in Alamogordo at 89.5 FM, Deming at 93.5 FM, Silver City at 91.2 and in Lordsburg and Truth or Consequences at 91.9 FM.

“This is another wonderful tradition during the holiday season. It’s a fun way for KRWG listeners and friends to support the station,” said KRWG General Manager Glen Cerny.

Adult tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door, while tickets for students/children ages 6-18 are $7.50 in advance and $10 at the door. Children under 6 are free.

Tickets may be purchased online at krwg.org or riograndetheatre.org; the Rio Grande Theatre box office in downtown Las Cruces; the KRWG offices in Milton Hall on the NMSU campus or by calling 575-646-2222; and the Cutter Gallery on the corner of University and El Paseo streets.
