NMSU’s Employee Council to host annual picnic Oct. 19

Employee Council at New Mexico State University is sponsoring a free picnic lunch for all faculty and staff members for the seventh year. The annual Employee Appreciation Picnic will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 19, at Preciado Park on the NMSU campus. The park is adjacent to O’Donnell Hall at the corner of Gregg Street and Williams Avenue.

“The employee picnic is a time to relax, eat and enjoy the company of the many coworkers across campus that you might not see on a regular basis,” said Adam Cavotta, senior university training specialist and Employee Council chair. “In good times and bad, it’s good to come together to share news, catch up with all the changes happening throughout campus, and in most cases, discover that we all have shared experiences that make us who we are as an organization. It’s a time to recognize that we are all in this together to promote the public good and reflect on how we help our students succeed.

“We also take this time to honor one of our outstanding employees with the ‘A’ Mountain Staff Award and in so doing we underscore NMSU core values of diversity and inclusion, accountability, excellence, discovery and engagement,” he said.

The Employee Council is an organization that hosts monthly meetings, open forums, picnics, tailgates and staff awards, and is an advisory board to the president and administration on issues concerning current employees and university retirees.

All employees are invited to attend Employee Council meetings, which typically occur once a month. The next meeting will be held at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 9, in Milton Hall Room 85. For employees who cannot attend the meetings, a live webcast also is available.

Employee Council consists of 23 voting members, and its executive committee meets regularly with the president. Employee Council members participate in more than 18 standing committees focused on the administration of university policies, initiatives and incentives.
