NMSU College of Business to unveil Carruthers’ dean portrait at luncheon

The New Mexico State University College of Business will unveil a specially commissioned portrait of former Dean Garrey Carruthers – now the NMSU system’s chancellor – during its annual scholarship luncheon. The luncheon is set for 11:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 30, at the New Mexico Farm and Ranch Heritage Museum, 4100 Dripping Springs Road, and will recognize the 164 students in the College of Business who’ve received scholarships during this academic year.

During the luncheon, the college will unveil the painting, created by Las Cruces artist and educator Shelley Black and framed by Ron Saltzman of Frame & Art Center, which will join a gallery of portraits spanning the 50-year history of the College of Business. Carruthers said the portrait marks an important time in his career.

“I thought that one of the finest experiences I’ve ever had in my life was as dean of the College of Business at NMSU,” Carruthers said. “It was challenging but also very rewarding to work with such talented students, faculty and staff.”

The luncheon and portrait unveiling are part of a series of Homecoming week events honoring students and alumni of distinction in the college.
