NMSU College of Engineering welcomes energy expert as first lecturer in spring Verge Series

New Mexico State University’s College of Engineering will welcome Phillip G. Harris, energy industry adviser, as the first speaker in the spring Verge Fund Lecture Series in Innovation, Ventures and Entrepreneurship. His presentation titled “Key Convergences in the Global Electrical Industry” will be held at 4 p.m. Friday, April 8, in Thomas and Brown Hall Room 104.

Harris, a 30-year energy industry veteran, now serves as an energy industry adviser. For more than 15 years, Harris was the president and chief executive officer of PJM Interconnection and chairman of the PJM board. Originating from an agreement among eight utility companies, under Harris’ leadership, PJM became the world’s largest competitive wholesale electricity market, which now ensures the reliability of the largest centrally dispatched grid in the world. PJM’s members total more than 450 and serve about 51 million people.

A native of New Mexico, Harris is a graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point with a degree in applied science and engineering. He earned a master’s degree in business management, with an emphasis on research and statistical methodology, from the University of Northern Colorado.
