NMSU senior dance majors to display talents at performance

Four senior dance majors at New Mexico State University, along with several other dance students, will host a Capstone performance next week at the ASNMSU Center for the Arts.

Performances of “Imprints in Tandem: A Senior Dance Major Concert,” will be at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Feb 5 and 6, and 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 7. Advance tickets are $12 for adults, $10 for students and seniors, and $5 for children under 12. At the door, tickets are $15 for adults, $12 for students and seniors, and $6 for children under 12.

The featured student choreographers are Jade Augustain, Lillian Calhoun, Carley Casey, Carissa Cordova, Gloria Flores, Kelsie Faught, Rachel Hubly, Hannah Nichols and Cristina Segovia. Attendees can expect to see a variety of dances including flamenco, ballroom and musical theater.

Debra Knapp, the director of dance in the Kinesiology and Dance Department of NMSU’s College of Education, said the students have been working on their performances since summer.

“It’s important that, as an artist, you’re able to contextualize your experience,” Knapp said. “It’s also important that they have opportunities to collaborate with each other, and opportunities to express themselves as a creator of art that is meaningful for them.”

The performance is the department’s biggest fundraising event to fund dance scholarships.
