CVB, Las Cruces Convention Center and NMSU partner to host A.C.E. conference

More than 2,500 conference participants will visit Las Cruces May 23-28 as the Accelerated Christian Education organization hosts its International Student Convention at the Las Cruces Convention Center and on the campus of New Mexico State University.

“The A.C.E. conference is a great opportunity for Las Cruces to showcase not only all the great things there is to see and do in the area, but to show off our first-class meeting facilities at the Las Cruces Convention Center,” said Convention & Visitors Bureau Executive Director Phil San Filippo. “With more than 2,500 attendees, 800 hotel room nights and a possible economic impact of more than $250,000, this event demonstrates our ability to host events that will have an impact on Las Cruces for years to come.”

In addition to families staying in local hotels, about 1,800 students will be staying on the NMSU campus in the residence halls and participating in events across campus and at the Convention Center.

“This is the largest conference on our campus in many years and we have enjoyed working with the Las Cruces Convention Center and Las Cruces Convention & Visitors Bureau to support the economic growth of our community,” said NMSU President Garrey Carruthers. “We are looking forward to showcasing the university for these students and we’re certain this will provide an opportunity for them to discover all that New Mexico State University has to offer.”

As part of the conference, more than 200 A.C.E. staff members provide trainings, services, curriculum and materials for an international network of 6,000 schools and thousands of home educators in 128 countries. Each year A.C.E. sponsors an International Student Convention, which brings together students to compete in more than 140 events in a wide range of categories from chess to Bible memory and from basketball to art.

“We started to work with the A.C.E. team in February 2013 to bring their International Student Convention to Las Cruces,” said Rebecca Bolton, Global Spectrum’s general manager at the Las Cruces Convention Center. “Last year A.C.E. utilized another Global Spectrum managed venue and we are looking forward to providing continuity in professional service for A.C.E. while they are here. A.C.E. is a great fit for Las Cruces and a prime example of what can be accomplished through partnerships between the of the City of Las Cruces, Las Cruces Convention & Visitors Bureau, New Mexico State University and the Las Cruces Convention Center.”
