NMSU dance program to host concert

A variety of dance styles, from foxtrot to samba, will be featured during the New Mexico State University DanceSport Company’s “Rhythm Nights: Monomyth” concert this weekend.

Performances will begin at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, April 17-18, and 2:30 p.m. Sunday, April 19, at Rentfrow Gym, 3165 Williams Ave. General admission tickets are $10 in advance or $12 at the door, and table seating tickets are $12 in advance or $15 at the door. Six-person tables are available for $72. Tickets for children 12 and younger are $5 on Sunday.

Under the direction of assistance dance professor Hannah Cole, performers will explore Joseph Campbell’s “The Hero’s Journey” pattern narrative.

“Each dance is inspired by literature and will take you on an epic adventure,” Cole said.

Performances are choreographed by Cole and senior members of the DanceSport Company, a program within NMSU’s College of Education.

Show proceeds will benefit the DanceSport program and company. Funds will be used to take students to competitions, produce shows and provide scholarships.
