NMSU’s Confucius Institute screens film about China’s ‘Ghost City’

New Mexico State University’s Confucius Institute will host a screening of the documentary “Land of Many Palaces: China’s Ghost City is Awakened,” from 7:30-9 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 19, at O’Donnell Hall, Room 111.

The film explores the process by which the Chinese government plans to relocate 250,000 farmers to cities over the next 20 years. Producer Adam Smith follows the path of a farmer in one of the last remaining villages in the region who is pressured to move to the city of Ordos, one of the first cities built specifically to house relocated farmers.

Smith will introduce the film and be on hand to answer questions after the screening.
