NMSU to hold Zumba fundraiser benefitting Lucy Sandoval Memorial Scholarship

The New Mexico State University College of Health and Social Services is hosting a Zumba master class fundraiser at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 3, at the Rentfrow Gymnasium, with 100 percent of the proceeds benefitting the Lucy Sandoval Memorial Endowed Nursing Scholarship.

Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at the door or in the dean’s office in the College of Health and Social Services. Leticia Gomez is teaching the class and volunteering her services.

Brittany Barham, one of Sandoval’s students, was instrumental in creating the scholarship to honor the nursing instructor, who died in January 2013.

“Working on this scholarship helps me feel like everything I learned from her has a chance of continuing at NMSU,” Barham said. “The things she taught us, I feel, are vital components to my profession now as a nurse.”

Barham said Sandoval helped her finish her degree because she wrote a recommendation for the Nightingale Scholarship from the New Mexico Center for Nursing Excellence, which Barham received.
