New Mexico State University’s Sustainable Agriculture Science Center at Alcalde will host its annual fruit tree pruning workshop from 1 to 4 p.m. Thursday, March 7. The center is located at 371 County Road 40 in Alcalde.
“We will have presentations on pruning basics, common training systems and some new development for each species,” said Shengrui Yao, Cooperative Extension Service fruit specialist. “After that, there will be a hands-on session in the field.”
The tree species will include apples, peaches, cherries and apricots. Also to be discussed will be grapes, blackberries and raspberries.
“Home gardeners, small farmers and commercial fruit growers are all welcome to attend this event,” Yao said. “However, this workshop is limited to 50 participants.”
